Goa is India's smallest state in terms of area and a small state 4th in population. It lies at the western coast of India in the region known as Konkan, Goa bangMaharashtra adjacent to the north, Karnataka to the east and the Arabian Sea forming its western coast.
Panaji (Panjim) is the state capital, Vasco-da-Gama (Vasco) is the largest city also the historic city of Margao still displays the influence of Portuguese culture. The Portuguese merchants first landed here in the 15th century and annexed it soon after that. Colonial Portugal existed in 450 years (one place long colonial occupation in the world), until its takeover by India in 1961.
Famous beaches, Goa has hundreds of thousands of international tourists and domestic visiting each year. Goa is also famous temples and architectural heritage of the world including the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa stock, making it a place in the Christian pilgrims largest in Asia. [Citation needed ] Goa is also rich in flora and fauna, thanks to its location near the Western Ghats mountain range, is classified as a biodiversity hotspot.
